Time for a change
I am enjoying February in Illinois. Despite the news that Punxsutawney Phil – “the legendary groundhog weather watcher” – woke up and saw his shadow on that February 2nd morning, calling for six more weeks of winter. Maybe that cute little Punxsutawney rodent is wrong. The surprisingly warm and sunny February days provide joy to the soul. Can this possibly be February!
February comes from the Latin word februa, which means “to cleanse.” The month was named after the Roman Februalia, which was a month-long festival of purification and atonement that took place this time of year.
D.C needs a though cleaning.
Yes, I watched the entire disappointing mis-infomercial by President Biden. But I also watched the tremendous contrasting speech by the youngest female governor in U.S. history – Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Quite a contrast in world views, America, and the future.
Victor Davis Hanson’s piece in The Daily Signal, February 10, 2023, provided the following insights.
“The nation was reminded again why only 37% of Bidens’s own party want him to run again.”
“Biden simply did on Tuesday in his State of the Union address what he always does: Misinform, ignore, and attack!”
Ben Shapiro stated, “Joe Biden gives an endless State of the Union Address in which he lies repeatedly and yells at Americans about how democracy will be finished unless we spend endless amounts of money.”
Andrew Klavan stated, “As you know, the State of the Union was delivered this week by the president of the United States, a doddering old wreck sinking into oblivion through a fog of lies and self-delusion, which by some strange coincidence is also the state of the union.”
During his State of the Union address, Biden called on Congress to codify Roe v. Wade “to protect every woman’s constitutional right to choose.”
The Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization in June 2022 overturned the high court’s previous abortion-related precedents in Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. Several states have moved to either restrict or expand access to the procedure since the Dobbs ruling. Biden said he would veto any effort to restrict the procedure at a federal level.
“Make no mistake; if Congress passes a national abortion ban, I will veto it,” Biden said.
Burch, Catholic Voice President in Catholicvote.org. (Feb 7) piece stated.

“The fact is, this kind of provocative rhetoric has only served to fuel the spread of violent attacks on churches and pregnancy help centers since Biden took office.”
“While ignoring these attacks and their victims, the Biden administration has openly weaponized the federal government against pro-life Americans like Mark Houck and his family.”
Mark Houck, a pro-life Catholic husband, and father of seven, was dramatically arrested at gunpoint in front of his wife and small children at home last September. The Biden Department of Justice sent what many called a “SWAT-style” FBI contingent to make the arrest.
In a rebuke to the Biden administration, a court later found Houck not guilty of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act.
In Contrast to Biden’s SOU, the new Governor from Arkansas, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, provide her perspective. The follow are excerpts from her speech.
“Being a mom to three young children taught me not to believe every story I hear. So, forgive me for not believing much of anything I heard tonight from President Biden. From out-of-control inflation and violent crime to the dangerous border crisis and threat from China, Biden and the Democrats have failed you.
“They know it. And you know it.
“In the radical left’s America, Washington taxes you and lights your hard-earned money on fire, but you get crushed with high gas prices, empty grocery shelves, and our children are taught to hate one another on account of their race, but not to love one another or our great country.
“And while you reap the consequences of their failures, the Biden administration seems more interested in woke fantasies than the hard reality Americans face every day. Most Americans simply want to live their lives in freedom and peace, but we are under attack in a left-wing culture war we didn’t start and never wanted to fight.
“Every day, we are told that we must partake in their rituals, salute their flags, and worship their false idols, all while big government colludes with Big Tech to strip away the most American thing there is—your Freedom of speech.
“That’s not normal. It’s crazy, and it’s wrong.
“America is great because we are free.
“But today, our freedom is under attack, and the America we love is in danger.
“President Biden and the Democrats have failed you.
“It’s time for a change.
“We know not what the future holds, but we know who holds the future in His hands. And with God as our witness, we will show the world that America is still the place where freedom reins and liberty will never die.”
In Conclusion, two different and contrasting viewpoints of America were presented on February 7. A “woke” crazy version, with endless uncontrolled spending, a foggy future, and no clue of what makes America great, versus, a clear bright, normal vision providing hope for America.
I chose hope. I chose Normal. God Bless America.
